The Mountain That Young Women Have To Climb
May 30, 2017

Last week, we launched a campaign to raise awareness of our groundbreaking empowerment movement, StrutCamp, designed for young women aged 14-18 and 18+. Jamie Edwards, the founder, has decided to get involved with his local community, to spread the word.
He spent the afternoon meeting the girls of local netball team, Middleton - who are to become ambassadors of the StrutCamp brand. The dynamic group of women apply these skills in all areas of their life, beyond sport, and this is why they are a perfect fit to spread the StrutCamp message. They were thrilled with their new StrutCamp sponsored kits and t-shirts and had plenty of questions for Jamie.
After learning that StrutCamp is designed to help young women to grow strong, preparing them for life’s inevitable challenges, Jamie turned the questions onto the Middleton girls themselves.
He asked them to identify the challenges that they faced each day….and the responses came thick and fast. The truth is, that many of the women feel that they are struggling and overwhelmed in many areas of their lives. The thought of completing school and taking the next step beyond is entirely daunting to many.
Some of the main concerns that came up repeatedly included:
- Equal rights
- Trying to fit in
- Social Media
- Lack of confidence / Self-esteem
- Body image
- Finding their authentic self
Fortunately, all of this and much more will be covered in the StrutCamp curriculum, which has been divided into 5 themes:
Energy - How to take care of the body and mind, managing emotions and building confidence.
Engagement - How to communicate effectively, including in difficult circumstances. How to engage with people and build strong relationships.
Environment - How to tailor your own personal space, to support development. Awareness of negative cycles that may be established.
Economics - The importance of valuing time and investing it wisely. Becoming aware of the emotional bank account. This area is also about decision-making skills.
Evolution - Evaluating where you are on YOUR journey and identifying what is holding you back. Understanding how to overcome your own limiting beliefs, so that you can transform and not just walk through life but Strut.
The next event is already planned for October 2017, in Manchester. More information will be confirmed soon.
The energy was high, as the girls chatted about the prospect of going through life with the tools to succeed, and of course, it wasn’t just the team that were enthusiastic. Parents, coaches and teachers are also welcoming this movement with open arms. It seems that today, such preparation is more vital than ever!
Team manager Leanne said "We're really buzzing about this. The girls are reading Jamie's book and to have the opportunity to experience StrutCamp as a group of individuals is amazing. One of team members said I really need this as I can be negative."
StrutCamp strives to provide the correct tools and skills necessary for young women to stand tall and take control of their lives despite the mountain that they will have to climb. The world is a scary place for young women, and leaving them to ‘make their own mistakes’ could take a terrible toll on their confidence. That is why Jamie is so passionate about this project. He has a young daughter himself and is keenly aware of the need to prepare her for life’s challenges. As a leading mental performance coach, who typically works with elite sportsmen and business people, he knows just how effective his tools can be.
In today’s society, it is essential that girls are equipped for the mountain that they will have to climb and StrutCamp is the perfect way to make sure that they are ready.
